Christopher McMahan, AIA, NCARB, LEED AP  

 

Christopher (Kip) McMahan is an architect for higher education, mission-driven organizations, and real estate developers with over twenty-five years experience in New York and New England. He is Principal of Fletcher Thompson’s NYC office and maintains an office for Fletcher Thomson in Providence, RI. Kip's experience ranges from the planning, programming, and design of large-scale, mixed-used commercial development sites to numerous buildings for universities and religious and arts organizations. He has provided design leadership on multiple projects, including the Courtyard by Marriott at Union Station, recipient of a Masonry Institute Award; LaSalle Academy Shea Science Building; Community College of Rhode Island’s Knight and Liston campuses; and Village Apartments at Fairfield University; andmaster plans for Temple Emanu-El in Providence and the Marian Fathers' in Stockbridge, MA. His restoration project for Rosedale Apartments, an Art Moderne complex on Narragansett Bay, received a preservation commission award in 2007. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Kip has served as a volunteer for several non-profit organizations: as president of The Music School, on the board executive committee of the Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra; on the board of Rhode Island Citizens for the Arts; and as a trustee of the Providence Preservation Society, which awarded him the 2004 President's Award. He received the 2006 Arts Advocate Award from the Rhode Island Arts and Business Council. Kip served for five years as chairman of the Rhode Island State Council on the Arts. Currently, he is a board member of the New England Foundation for the Arts, and Vice President of the Veterans Memorial Auditorium Foundation.

 

Christopher McMahan, AIA, NCARB, LEED AP, received bachelor degrees in Fine Arts and Architecture from the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD). He has participated in RISD design studios and juries over many years, most recently as visiting critic in Interior Architecture, Fall Term 2011.
